Laredo and Cim brought Stockton another Mountain Boomer. This one is very young and small but seems to be naturally unafraid of Stockton.

Stockton caught this big guy. He seems pretty old and worn. He let him go after we snapped these pictures.
He’s caught this one before, but came across him again. He calls him stubby.

We had to go to Abilene to meet up with my cousin and his wife and give back their daughter, Samantha, who’s been visiting Aspen for a couple of weeks. Since it was Stockton’s birthday we wanted to surprise him and Carolina with a trip to the Abilene zoo. We had to leave the house around 5:30 in order to be at the zoo by 9 a.m. when it opened. We wanted to beat the heat a little bit, and we were meeting my cousin for lunch. I think everyone had a good time. Stockton especially liked the reptile house. That was no surprise to anyone.
The craziest thing we saw today was some carp that live in the lake by the park. They have an area where you can purchase a handful of fish food to feed them. The carp were there waiting. It was very strange looking.
Now for the difficult part….decisions at the gift shop.
Aspen and Samantha were sad to part, but George and Nancy were glad to get her back.
Thursday, July 3, 2014-
Stockton has been keeping and feeding this female frog that he caught down at the river about a month ago. With this morning’s nice rain (1.5 inches), he agreed to let her go. He wasn’t real happy about it. Doesn’t she have an interesting pattern? He got on the internet and studied up on how to tell the sexes apart. The male has yellow on his throat and ear holes larger than his eyes.
Here’s how she looked the day he caught her. I guess they change their camo color depending on their surroundings.

This afternoon Nathan was plowing and caught this little rabbit. Aspen and Carolina had fits over it, of course.

Aspen screamed when she saw a rattlesnake sleeping on the back porch. Nathan, Cim and Laredo were all away from the house doing something with the tractor and planting hay grazer. So, Stockton got his trusty .22 and killed it with his first shot. Right in the head. Way to go, Stockton!

Here’s a couple of cute pictures that we took today. The first one is Stockton’s new bearded dragon, Rogue, about to enjoy a nice breakfast. Stockton fried him a finch egg.
These pictures show Rusty with his nose in a corner. I guess he can smell a mouse or something.

Stockton found this little bird under a tree. I guess he had been pushed out of the nest. Hopefully his mom is nearby watching over him. We think it’s a wren of some kind.
