Kitten in a Basket

Thursday, April 24, 2014

Jordan’s family cat had a litter of kittens not long after Marian was born. Atlanta and Jordan have adopted one. Her name is Violet and she and Carolina had a lot of fun during our short visit.

Carolina tried to carry her around in this basket, but she wasn’t content to stay inside it.

She did find something else to put in her basket. These brightly colored phlox were blooming everywhere in the woods.

Tennessee Here We Come

CameraZOOM-20140424080351270

Nathan and I and the two little kids are making a quick run to Tennessee this weekend. One of the well trucks is in the shop, so Nathan agreed it was a good time to go and see Marian (and Atlanta and Jordan, too, of course). We’re on the west side of Little Rock as I write this. We came through some very heavy rain in Oklahoma earlier, but the sun is out now and everything is so green.

Update: we’re almost there! We should arrive around 4:00. We left at 2:00 this morning. Nathan has driven all the way. I’ve offered to drive, but he says he’s doing okay. Here’s a video I shot as we crossed the Mississippi.

Shannon Ranch Goes WordPress

shannonranch wordpress

I’ve been working on switching over to a regular blog format for the ShannonRanch news for a while now. There was a pretty significant learning curve and a lot of hair pulling for me in getting it done. I’ve been so used to creating my website with Frontpage software which enables me to do anything, move anything, and change anything so easily, that I’ve really been challenged by the blog-in-a-box structure of wordpress. However, with some research and study, I was able to tweak it enough to add a little personality. It’s still a work in progress, but I hope that by using an existing blog format, I’ll feel a bit more connected to my readers. Now you’ll be able to comment, follow me and even sign up to get an email when I post something new. Let me know what you think and any suggestions that you have. Thanks for reading the news.  Windy

Weekend Visit

Sunday, April 20

The Mars family came down on Sunday and spent the day with us. We had a really fun day that included some people (who were riding in the open air jeep) getting rained and hailed on while on a trip to the river…

Rusty claimed his seat first.

On the way to the river, it started to rain and then hail. The umbrella flipped backwards and wasn’t much help.

Baby Finch Update

 Saturday, April 19

The baby finches hardly seem like babies anymore. They’ve all left the nest and several are eating on their own. They will be a month old this friday. We’ve obviously got an over-crowding problem and are looking for a bigger cage. We would also be interested in making several people a good deal on a nice pair of zebra finch.
