Ominous Storm Clouds

Tuesday, June 24, 2014

This afternoon, some dark clouds rolled in. Unfortunately, we didn’t get any rain out of them here on the ranch. But, we did end up with some great shots.

Cimarron shared these pictures with me. He took them on his phone while at work.

Cousin Visit

Every year, my cousin’s daughter, Samantha, comes to spend time with Aspen. It’s unclear to me why she keeps coming back since Aspen works her like a dog. She helps with the feeding, milking, building of pens and housework, too. I guess she’s a glutton for punishment!

Most Amazing Sky Ever

Thursday, June 19, 2014

Tonight, approaching showers brought thunderclouds low to the ground. The setting sun then combined with the blue and purple clouds and added some orange and pink. The result was nothing less than spectacular.

This phone shot was taken by Robin Boedeker from her house west of Quitaque. She knew I would love it and sent it to me. She was right. Thanks, Robin!

Flying a Kite

Thursday, June 19, 2014

After the Goodwin’s left, Stockton was out on the flat in front of our house flying a kite that Mambo had gotten him. The other boys were working on something near the pens. The sky was so pretty, too, that I just took pictures of everything and everybody.

DSC_0105

Can you spot the kite?

DSC_0108

The boys are still in their grungy work clothes, although I think Laredo must have changed his shirt. It looks way too clean.

DSC_0109

I asked them to pose for me, which they weren’t too excited about.

DSC_0110

I think I might have even said I wouldn’t post this picture….but he’s so cute….don’t tell him it’s here…shhh

Saying Goodbye to Marian

Thursday, June 19, 2014

The time had come. They had to leave for home. Jordan had rested as much as he could during the day and they were once again going to travel all night so Marian could sleep. We were so sad to see them go.

Full Day of Fun

Wednesday, June 18

The day started with visitors from Lubbock. Sunny, Hannah and Granny came and brought lunch. The kids all had a blast swimming as well.

Incredible Thunderhead

Saturday, June 28, 2014

This lone thunderhead had the panhandle radar all to itself. When I first started taking pictures, it was more compact. It apparently started to build again as the evening wore on and grew larger as a column of the boiling cloud formed a new tower. It eventually took up the whole southeastern sky. It must have been over the Paducah area.

This is how it appeared at first notice.

As the sun started to go down, orange highlights began to appear on the thunderhead.

The setting sun, which was already below our view of the horizon, was still highlighting one small area on the topmost part of the cloud. It was truly awe inspiring. Although this is an amazing photo, it doesn’t capture the grandeur by half. I wish you could have been there.

Evening Walk

Tuesday, June 17, 2014
The evening was so pleasant that we took a little stroll after the dishes were done. We didn’t get to walk far. Marian was more interested in the sand and grass.

Breathtaking clouds tonight. The evenings have been so beautiful lately with the smell of the moist ground in the air.

Laredo’s 20th Birthday

Tuesday, June 16, 2014

Tonight after the boys got in from work, we had a special dinner in honor of Laredo.

We didn’t get homemade ice cream accomplished, so we cheated and had Nathan bring some from town.
