Turkeys Near the House

Friday, March 24 –

We got a pretty close look at a flock of Turkeys that came walking out of the pasture into the field next to the house. They didn’t hang around long but kept walking as they pecked around for food.

Baby Wild Hog Becomes a Pet

February 24-

The most adorable ever!

Stockton and some friends were out hunting and came upon a group of hogs. The animals all scattered except for one little confused baby girl. Stockton caught her (in a cactus) and brought her to us. Aspen brought out her pet bottle and some fresh cows milk which the pig took right away.

Everybody loves the new baby
She soon became very spoiled

We named her Tricki Woo after a favorite British TV character.

Evening Cake and the New Babies

Thursday, April 8 –

Cattle are always up for a little evening treat. Large bags of feed pellets, called “Cake” are full of protein and help supplement lacking pastures in the winter months. This spring, wild rye grass has made its appearance, but these recently calved mothers will still come running for a taste of cake. Aren’t the babies sweet? Many of them have a Charolais sire and are sporting his color or some version of it.

Ranch Daredevils

Saturday, October 24 –

Bella, Axel and Mia came to the Ranch today. The kids always have a lot of fun. This visit, I had something new for them to try. I picked up a couple of little “Velo” bikes made for toddlers. They don’t have pedals, but they do teach kids to balance on a bike.

We found the nearest place on the road that had a little hill and they started trying to figure out how to glide down the hill on the bikes. Axel thought it was more fun to try and crash his bike in ever new and creative ways. I started calling him Evel Knievel. They wanted to know who that was so I told them all about the famous daredevil from years past. Not to be outdone, Bella informed us that she also had a new moniker, “Abel Kenobi”!

Fourth of July Cook-Out *Video*

Thursday, July 4 –

Cim’s family and Laredo’s family came out for some burgers and homemade ice cream. Everyone had to take a turn holding little Magnus.

Callahan enjoyed the new pickup.

Bella prefers the old “cozy coupe”.

Callahan and Axel found a big “tractor” to inspect.

Celebrating Callahan’s Birthday

Sunday, May 12 –

What luck! We got to help celebrate Callahan’s 2nd birthday!

Uncle Cim gets his first time holding Magnus.

All kids like helping clean up, especially Bella.

After cleanup we had an impromptu photo shoot with the kids. We wanted pictures of Magnus while he was still tiny.

Enjoy this slideshow made up of more cute shots of Callahan’s first year!

Day After Christmas Hail Storm

Wednesday, December 26 –

We were surprised when a freak hail storm blew in on the day after Christmas. I guess we got our “white” Christmas anyway. The video is seven and a half minutes long so you may not want to watch it all, but be sure to click near the end and see the water running down the road. As an avid storm watcher I couldn’t bear to cut out any good thunder.

Moving In the Tiny House

Monday, December 24,

It’s not everyday you see a house coming up your driveway. My mom is going to be living next door to us in the cutest tiny house ever. We found it down in Hamlin, Texas. Today was the day that worked out best for everyone to move it. There will still be a lot of work to do on it before mom can move in, but getting it here is a great relief.

Roaring Springs Ranch Rodeo

Friday, August 25 –

As always, the evening starts off with a prayer and the national anthem. It’s always so moving.

This boy, Riggen Greer, was the “wool fighter” in the “Muttin’ Bustin'” which is wild sheep riding for kids.

Dorothy Rainey Jones Funeral

Wednesday, July 25 –

This is a picture of my dad (in his uniform) with his siblings. He is pictured with his five sisters and his brother. There was a younger sister, also, that came along later or perhaps was too little to make this pose. My Aunt Dorothy is the youngest girl pictured on the far right.

Although so many of the siblings and their spouses have passed away, and will be sorely missed, their legacy goes on in numerous children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Colorful Visitor on a Gray Day

Wednesday, February 21 –

I snapped a few pictures of a Gold-fronted Woodpecker that was visiting our feeder for a little snack. It certainly stood out in contrast to the cool tones of the front yard today. The male woodpecker has the red and orange spots on his head, while the female only has a peachy-yellow patch on the back of her head. These are fun birds to watch. Have you ever seen one?
