Dorothy Rainey Jones Funeral

Wednesday, July 25 –

This is a picture of my dad (in his uniform) with his siblings. He is pictured with his five sisters and his brother. There was a younger sister, also, that came along later or perhaps was too little to make this pose. My Aunt Dorothy is the youngest girl pictured on the far right.

Although so many of the siblings and their spouses have passed away, and will be sorely missed, their legacy goes on in numerous children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Cimarron’s Surprise Party

Saturday, May 19 –

To celebrate Cim’s 26th birthday, Courtney planned a surprise party for him. It was held at the fellowship hall of the Matador church of Christ. Cim thought they were stopping by to pick up something that was left there on their way to the ranch for supper. I think she did manage to surprise him. At least he looked surprised when he heard everyone shout, “Happy Birthday”.

She made a really amazing cake that looked like barbell weights stacked one on the other.

We had hamburgers and hot dogs to go with the cake, too. Everybody chipped in. It was quite a feast.

Colorful Visitor on a Gray Day

Wednesday, February 21 –

I snapped a few pictures of a Gold-fronted Woodpecker that was visiting our feeder for a little snack. It certainly stood out in contrast to the cool tones of the front yard today. The male woodpecker has the red and orange spots on his head, while the female only has a peachy-yellow patch on the back of her head. These are fun birds to watch. Have you ever seen one?

Breezy Hike at Caprock Canyons

Monday, February 19 –

Atlanta and Jordan stayed an extra day so that we could go to Caprock Canyons State Park near Quitaque. Atlanta really wanted to show it to Jordan and the kids. Sadly, Aspen, Carolina and Nathan were too sick to go, but our small group had a lot of fun anyway. The wind was really blowing, but once we dropped off in the canyon, we hardly noticed it at all. We drove around checking out the prairie dogs and buffalo, then found a place to picnic before going on a hike down the valley.

Supper in Lubbock

Tuesday, February 13 –

Sunny and Jim hosted a special supper in Lubbock in honor of the Goodwin visit. Their new house is the perfect place to host a large group. The meal was yummy hamburgers with all the fixin’s.

Big Group at Crosbyton Church

Sunday, February 11 –

With the Goodwin’s in town, we all attended church in Crosbyton because Laredo was preaching there that Sunday. They served lunch as well. It was fun and Laredo did a great job.

Fun in the Front, Fun in the Back

Thursday, February 22 –

We had fun playing with the kids in the front yard and the back yard.

The funnest thing to do in the front yard is ride in the wagon.

Coconut always has to jump in. She really loves the wagon.

In the backyard is a playhouse among other things. Here we are having a tea party in front of it.

Steel is the uninvited guest.

Marian is red riding hood.

Steel is the wolf, but he doesn’t look too ferocious.

Looks like Robin Hood has come by for refreshments.

Little John is thirsty, too.

Blast from the Past

Saturday, November 11 –

Nathan’s best friend from high school, Steve Johnson, and his son, Luke, stopped by for a visit today. He and Nathan swapped stories about their high school days and caught up on the latest family news. Most of the stories were well-loved re-tellings, but there were a few new ones that we hadn’t already heard.

Fun Week with Callahan

Monday, October 16 –

Since Laredo had a week off between classes, he and Andrea and little Cal got to spend some time at the ranch. We loved having them here close enough to really get to know Cal. He’s so darling and sweet.

We also discovered he likes dirt.

Newest Grandbaby – Axel Wayne Shannon

Wednesday, September 20 –

Cimarron and Courtney have a second child, a son this time. Finally, after taking his sweet time, Axel made his appearance at 9:40 pm on Tuesday, September 19, 11 days late. But as you can see from the pictures, he was definitely worth the wait. What a sweet little man! He weighed 8 lbs. and 1/2 oz. and was 20″ long. He was born at a natural birthing center in Midland.

We got to go see him the next day.
